Kitui Honey Value Chain

The Kitui honey value chain project is working towards improving farmers’ livelihoods through increased honey production and collective marketing. The project improves the indigenous knowledge of traditional beekeepers through training on aspects of hive stocking and apiary management. Since 2018, the project has reached over 2,600 farmers. The project is organized as follows:

The County Government of Kitui and like-minded stakeholders are working with the cooperative under the various relevant ministries to spearhead bee keeping ranked as a priority value chain.

Kitui Climate Change Project

The project aims to improve food security and climate resilience of communities in Kitui South through such pillars as capacity development for positive behavior change, policy influencing for an enabling environment for investment in resilience and sustainable business opportunities. This is realized by activities aimed at creating awareness on climate change issues; promotion of low fuel affinity clean cooking solutions; afforestation, re-afforestation, and Regeneration; water harvesting structures; influencing climate change related policy formulation through the Kitui County Climate Change Hub, strengthening climate governance structures like Ward Climate Change Planning Committees (WCCPC) to reignite the county climate change agenda and promoting climate responsive value chains.

Kamaki Farmers' Cooperative Society Limited.

Kamaki Farmers Cooperative Societies (KFCS) is a farmer-led cooperative in Kenya’s Kitui County that work to improve agricultural productivity and livelihoods known for production, aggregation and marketing honey. The cooperative provides training, access to financial services through the Kamaki SACCO, and market linkages to help farmers get better prices. 

The Muangeni Rural Development Programme is committed to empowering local communities through sustainable initiatives in agriculture, environmental restoration and conservation, and inclusive Entrepreneurship. By providing training, access to resources, and market linkages, we help farmers and families improve their livelihoods and achieve long-term growth.
